Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a rehabilitation science which aims in maximizing the functional potential of an individual who has a disease, dysfunction or injury. Physiotherapy aims to help in optimization of mobility, function and independence. It is a gateway to a path of better health and fitness.

We perform thorough assessments and design individualized treatment plans on a case-to-case basis.

Physiotherapists work with a multidisciplinary team including neurosciences, orthopaedics, cardio-pulmonology and others, to provide holistic care that is aligned with the patient’s goals.

We have specialty Physiotherapists, to make a tailor made approach for each patient depending on whether they require Neuro-Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy or Cardio-pulmonary Physiotherapy.

FAQs
Is Physiotherapy only limited to orthopaedic conditions?

More often than not the general consensus is that Physiotherapy is only related to treatment of pain in joints. The fact is, Physiotherapy deals with wide range of ailments and health concerns. For instance, Neuro-Physiotherapy, Cardio-respiratory Physiotherapy, Women’s Health (pre and post pregnancy care), Sports Physiotherapy, Onco-Physiotherapy and Renal Physiotherapy.

Are there any side effects of physiotherapy?

No, there are no known side effects after doing physiotherapy under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

Does medication go hand in hand with Physiotherapy?
More often than not patients feel that medications can be discontinued when they are taking Physiotherapy but that is not the case as both are adjuncts to each other.
Is OPD Physiotherapy only about Electro-therapy?
Most of the patients feel that Electrotherapy modalities are long term solution to their Problems. Electrotherapy though effective to reduce pain does not give long term benefits. The current trend focuses on manual therapy, mobilization techniques and a good exercise regimen that the patient has to follow on a long term basis.
Is there a fixed number of sessions for taking a course of physiotherapy treatment?

As far as electrotherapeutical modalities are concerned, the number of sessions is usually limited to ten sessions, though the number of sessions depends from patient to patient. The number of sessions is usually by the discretion of the treating physiotherapist and also dictated by the condition of the patient.

Can physiotherapy be done after a meal?
If the patients have to exercise, then it is recommended not to have the session immediately after a meal. Alternately, if the patient has to undergo any electrotherapeutical treatment, then there is no such restriction.
Are the exercises limited to the duration of the physiotherapy sessions only?
No, the exercises that are taught by the physiotherapist have to be continued on a long term basis for optimal benefit.
Will the patient have a full recovery at the end of the ten sessions?
The recovery of each patient depends on a number of factors like the age, co-morbid factors and the chronicity of the problem. For patients with prolonged neurological or orthopedic ailments, the time taken to heal will take a longer period and the patient has to follow up frequently with the physiotherapist for any change in the regimen or otherwise.
Is physiotherapy safe during pregnancy?
Yes. In fact the onus is on ante-natal physiotherapy at the end of the first trimester itself. Apart from the general well-being of the patient, there are a host of other benefits as well.
